Van Goth 2.0 - Part 1

I can't get myself to start anything new yet. But I'll try to trick my stupid stuck brain into it by finished stuff I've abandoned. Or at least that's the plan.

So here's what this thing is: I had a bunch of old college notes that I felt bad just throwing out so I figured gluing them to piece of cardboard would make a nice background for a painting. So I did that. I was also just freshly done with the Van Goth painting and still had my linework sketch out so I figured I'd make another version, this time with the EYEBALLS.

I switched to a medium I'm not comfortable with in an attempt to learn it (brush pens) but I'll be honest. I don't like them. I don't like how it feels. Maybe with better quality it feels different but mine are the absolute cheapest you can find and the way it feels to use them makes my skin crawl.

Also, the cardboard warped from the humidity of the glue (what a shock -.-).

Basically nothing  went to plan.

So I kinda abandoned it. It lived behind my bed till now. So I'm gonna try and fix this thing.

First of all I needed to seal off the really runny brushpen ink with some really transparent white acrylic paint.

The right side didn't have that grey sorta shadowy background so I had to add that in to correct the tones cause the paint I'm gonna be using is really cheap acrylic and its SO transparent. I'm not sure how many layers it would take to make the paint over it the same tone on both sides so I'd rather just do this. I painted really messy and loose cause at this point I can.

Then went in with the same white as before to blend it in.

Now the fun part begins! I don't want it to have the same colour scheme as the original. I want something a bit more ghostly but also a bit more emo. I'm not sure how to pull off exactly what I have in mind but this is an experiment after all. I want to figure out a certain style while playing with this.

So the firs thing is  to give it sort of a base colour. Loosely used a light blue in the shadowy areas and neon yellow/green in the light areas - it says yellow on the tube, looks green to me.

The next step is going to be to paint contours and the the really dark parts with a primary blue. I'm a bit undecided how I'll want to go about the midtones and highlights yet. I have some ideas. Nothing has to be too perfect tho cause the whole thing is getting outlined later.

This is how far I got before I got distracted by pizza.
