Blaugust 2025
3rd of Blaugust 2025 - I just learned about Blaugust
Several things are conspiring to ruin my plans for today. The weather being one of them, or at least the straw that broke the cammels back. But I didn't start this post to complain. I found a silver lining while catching up on the blogs I follow. This post form iam.skoo.bz was talking about taking part in Blaugust which immediately peaked my interest. I followed the link provided for a better explanation and got to jeddacp.com who madde a really nice detail post about it. From there I followed both the registration link and the liks to the main posts about it.
I know I'm late but better late than never. I love the idea and I didn't hesitate to register on first read. So let's start with introductions and all that.
Hi, I'm Sid.
And I started blogging cause I was sick of the echoy hollow semiautomated Internet of today. I yearn for the times where the Internet genuinly felt like a place where you could connect and exchange ideas, discover new stuff and push the limits of creativity and curiosity on. So I sorta banished my social media to just be some websites I sometimes go to when I need something that I can only find there. I moved my art and thoughts to a blog that I'm still developing and having so much fun with it.
How I run my blog.
I have discovered that I don't like creating posts for three paragraphs or a couple pictures. I find it overwhalming to manage. Instead I like to create posts that I update 'till a natural ending point. This way I feel I'm working on a slower pace and in a more coherent way. I also send out a monthly newsletter with a summary of what's new and what's been updated so readers know where to look. Is it the most convenient fast spoonfed type of publishing? probably not. But it's not intended to be. Who is interested will stay on, and who is here for instant dopamine hits will leave and that's fine. That's a thing we seem to have forgotten, not everything on the Internet needs to be for everyone.
How I plan to tackle Blaugust.
First off, this will be my my main Blaugust post. I will update it nearly daily. I say "nearly" cause I know myself. If I set out for a daily thing I burn out after the first week. If there are separate posts I'm working on meanwhile I will link them as entries for those specific days.
I will also change the publishing date each time I update this post to make it stay on top.
I don't think I'll keep to the prompts. Honestly I haven't really read them, just skimmed them. I read the list of participating blogs and I already read some posts. So what I want to do instead is find a blog post I like by one of the participans and sorta do a reply to it here, send them the link in a comment or something and maybe stir up a bit of chatter.

5th of Blaugust 2025 - Got lost on a website and I'm happy about it
Today I set out to make my Blaugust list. I copied the full list from here into a Obsidian note and went to click on each blog and see if I vibe with it. I deleted those which didn't interest me and made little notes next to those that I liked. The notes I made are of something on the site that will make me remember which is which (at this point it's information overload so I needed a method). Just to be clear, the ones that I deleted I'm sure are interesting too, just not my thing. Or maybe they are but I judged books by their covers. I put the remaining 33 into Raven Reader to attempt to keep up...I don't like putting blogs in RSS readers cause I like to read them on site with the weird design choices of the writer. I love that, but for this month, the raven helps!
My favourite one to just click through and discover is this fuckign beauty ribo.zone. I've ended up on it even in my first pass through the list when I first learned about Blaugust. It is everything I missed about the old Internet, it's creative, quirky, an absolute rabbit hole of stuff. I have it open even as I type this and I'm goin' right back to exploring it as soon as I publish. It reminds me of those old CD encyclopedias like Naturcarta and such.

6th of Blaugust 2025 - had me at "I'm short, and I bite"
Almost didn't update today because I got distracted by watching Wednesday. But here I am anyway!
This blog had me at "I'm short, and I bite", as a fellow short human all I can say is THAT'S THE SPIRIT! I also got intrigued byt the fiber artist part of the description, I too am a fiber artist (and no, I haven't called myself that before either)....so I could already see we got some things in common.
In the Blaugust intro there was mentioned the posibility of hearing about which plant has a new leaf each day and I'm all up for that kind of news. In today's newscycle that's such welcome information. I'm also at the edge of my seat about that aqaurium fix. I can totally relate to "how hard can it be? I'll just watch some youtube about it and I'm good to go". I know how it goes. It's the only logical thing to do, breaking it is part of the process.

7th of Blaugust 2025 - 23:03 - drafts and quilting
Spent the better part of my online time today on drafting a post that I'll publish on Sunday. I had enough of screens so I went to do other stuff, including working on my quilt and listening to clasical music *cough*bvb*cough*, and kept promising myself I'll read some blogs later and update this post. Spoilers! I didn't. And I'm not gonna. I'll do that tomorrow. Goodnight world!

8th of Blaugust 2025 - backyard wanderlust
Here's a blog that I found that hit very close to my heart: rscottjones.com. Scott is an avid traveller and likes to go on quests, be they around the World or in his own neighbourhood. I really encourage reading his about page because my few lines here won't do justice to his introduction.
As a firm believer of walking every nook and cranny of where I live I really recommend this article about five ways to explore where you live. One of the ways he lists here is "be a tourist" which I found a bit funny cause years ago I wrote an article for a friend's blog about five ways to be a tourist in your home town. That blog has since went down but I'm sure I kept the draft. I might dig it out and post it here.
I'm definetely gonna follow Scotts blog for quest ideas like this one.

9th of Blaugust 2025 - takes nice photos
I'm really out of it today. Have been like this since yesterday evening. I'm deep in my thoughts and can't really focus on anything that has words. So I looked through the blogs I jotted into my Obsidian for something more visual. I have little notes to remind me about what each one is about and I settld on one with the note "takes nice photos". And after a more through binge clicking on more posts I can atest that "takes nice photos" stands as a very good descriptor. Visit jeddacp.me if you don't blieve me Sorry for not writing more about it. I can't words today.
Oh, and congrats for the wedding!

10th of Blaugust 2025 - no blog today
I didn't read any of the blogs today. I had some photo editing to do to release a new post about my worst drawings ever. I even had some assistance from my cat. Ok, that's it for today. Sid out.

11th of Blaugust 2025 - being nosy
Looking though today's blog makes me feel a bit like I'm being nosy and going through someone's computer. I love the idea that it looks like an old Windows desktop so much. The navigation is amazing and I found this post about degoogling which is something that's been on my mind for a while so I may steal some of yur ideas there. I keeping that post bookmarked!

12th of Blaugust 2025 - being nosy - episode 2
Same as the one from yesterday manonamora's computer also looks like the screen of an old computer. (fuck I hope I didn't mispell that name! I'm dyslexic and that took me a few minutes to type) Very different flavour tho. It's still under construction but the things that work are a delight. My favourite part abut this is that there are a lot of links to other wonderful websites to explore and get lost in.

14th of Blaugust - just words
The last two blogs I checked out were a visual playground and I'm such a sucker for that. Today however I read the entirety of a very stripped down minimalist blog. Interesting how minimalists looks dont necessarily need to all look the same as you tend to see, but have their own personality. But enough about looks. I really found a lot of common groud with Remy: sick of social media, on a journey to find some sort of balance between digital and analog, uses a chaotic bullet journal, queer, and many more. Some of the topics they write about are topics on my list of blog ideas. I'm also intrigued by the "comment on Mastodon" thing. I recently made an account just to be able to reach some other blogger this Blaugust and I haven't decided how I feel about it yet. All in all what struck me about the way Remy blogs is the sincerity.
BONUS: becasuse I missed a day yesterday here's a bonus. The other daay when I was going all "ooh shiny" on manonamora's computer I found this anti-AI ring that I decided to join. Just leaving it here for anyone who would also like that.
I like this concept of a main blog post that is appended. The great thing about Blaugust is that you can do it however you want. There are guidelines, no real rules. Hope the event proves beneficial for you.
ReplyDeleteIt's a format I've been using for a bit now, especially for longer events. It feels more like a coherent work than a bunch of short disjointed posts. I get to interact with it each time I update it, I catch another typo, fix some stupid word. If I'd post separately i'd forget what my earlier posts were about and completely lose my throughline by the time the event is over.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and Merry Blaugust!
